Baked Goods Productions Wraps Collective Soul’s “Hollywood” Music Video in Tinsel Town Ribbon
DMN Newswire--2007-8-31--Baked Goods Productions recently created 3D visual effects and 2D visual animation for the new Collective Soul music video, “Hollywood,” according to George Loucas, visual effects supervisor for Baked Goods.
Directed by Zach Merck, the “Hollywood” musicvideo was produced by Oracle Films. The producers were Stephanie Gosset and Brian Scott Robinson.
In a huge and challenging VFX undertaking, Baked Goods created close to 100 shots in a period of less than two weeks. The “Hollywood” video begins with an audience outside Mann’s Chinese Theatre as the camera flies through the audience and the opening doors and past the parting curtains to a white stage where the band is playing. Bright and glowing, multicolored ribbons flow and weave around the rocking Collective Soul members. Stardust sparkles as it falls from the lead singer Ed Roland’s hand.
“The bulk of the video revolves around colorful ribbons that are being emitted by the band members,” said Loucas. “It was very important to us that the movement of the many ribbons be very organic and complement the action and composition already existing in the shot.”
Baked Goods used Maya for creating the ribbons in 3D and Shake for compositing. There were a handful of shots where true interaction between the band members and the ribbons was crucial. For those shots, the studio relied heavily on tracking and Maya's advanced new cloth sym tools found in version 8.5. Baked Goods’ Danny Prussmann edited the video.
“Hollywood” is the first single off the quintet’s long awaited new album, “Afterwards,” which will be released August 28th by the band’s own independent music label El Music Group. The “Hollywood” music video is now on sale on iTunes. The album will be available exclusively at Target (which is airing the music video in its commercials and in stores).
